A.Introduction
The PAPID, was founded in l992 by the parents of
persons with intellectual disabilities all over Taiwan.
Up to date, there are 36 local chapters with more than
12,000 families in PAPID. Firstly, it is to speak out
and strive for persons with intellectual disabilities’
rights and welfare. Secondly, it is to provide supporting
and assistance to the parents. Thirdly and most important,
PAPID is to help persons with intellectual disabilities
achieve the greatest possible enrichment and fulfillment
in their lives. PAPID’s missions are as follows:

To urge legislative to update the
laws related to the intellectual disabilities. |
| 2. |
To speak out for the fair share of national resources
for the persons with intellectual disabilities. |
| 3. |
To work with government agencies in order to improve
quality of special education, medical care, care-taking
and vocational training for the persons with intellectual
disabilities. |
| 4. |
To promote the research and development on welfare,
special education, and other related services for
persons with intellectual disabilities. |
| 5. |
To promote the research and development on family-supporting
service, sex-education, ageing, special medical
treatment, long-term care service (e.g. in-home
care; daily activity center; day care; respite care;
nursing home, independent living), and institutional
service. |
| 6. |
To strive for the better working conditions and
to have incentive to buy the product made by the
shelter workshop. |
| 7. |
To interact with related institutions and organizations. |
| 8. |
To participate international organizations, such
as the Inclusion International(I.I.) and the Asian
Federation on Mental Retardation (AFMR). |

To elevate public awareness. |
